Kristen Stewart for Balenciaga 'Florabotanica'

Balenciaga has unveiled the highly-anticipated campaign image for their latest scent, 'Florabotanica', starring Twilight actress Kristen Stewart.

Wearing a structured floral-print dress from Nicolas Ghesquière's spring/summer 2008 collection for the label, Stewart maintains her usual moody glare whilst keeping her hands firmly in her pockets in the image shot by fashion favourite Steven Meisel.

"I think that's kind of perfect for this particular ad. Usually, a fragrance ad would definitely be (sexy)," she told WWD of the ad. "When I first stood there, I was like, 'OK, do you want me to show the curves of the dress? Do you want me to stand like this? Like that?' And they were like, 'Just be comfortable.'"

Comfort is a key factor for Stewart, who regularly pairs couture with Converse when she makes red carpet appearances.

Balenciaga's creative director, Ghesquiere, had reportedly had his eye on Stewart ever since she appeared in the 2002 film Panic Room as a diabetic 12-year-old. "I remember thinking, 'Wow, I would love to do something with her one day.' She's so Balenciaga," said Ghesquière.

"There is something natural about it," explained Stewart of the fragrance. "It's very alive. I think that as a young person wearing it - considering that I've never worn a scent - it kind of puts you on this level of, like, 'Whoa, check me out.'"

'Florabotanica' is the third fragrance in Balenciaga's repertoire, following on from 'Balenciaga Paris' and L'Essence'. It includes a vetiver, amber and caladium-leaf accord, and a (hybrid) rose, carnation and mint accord.

Stewart follows in the footsteps of Charlotte Gainsbourg, who was chosen by Ghesquière as the face of the two previous scents.

Her next career move is in another direction entirely - she'll be channelling an altogether less Tween-friendly character for her part in the Nick Cassavetes-directed Cali . "I'm going to get into the best shape of my life," she said. "I'm going to look like a stripper. I'm going to look like a porn star."
