The spring/summer 2012 season has been so entirely saturated with colour (perhaps to make up for those permanently grey skies) that I was actually stopped short by this image of Anne Hathaway in New York wearing black. Looks kind of fresh, no?

It's a Stella McCartney dress and, with its slim silhouette and fabulous swingy fringing, an absolute winner - a classic that would see you through any cocktail party in any decade of the last sixty years.
Aside from that, what I find interesting about Anne Hathaway at the moment is how her latest haircut is dictating her dress sense. The Devil Wears Prada star always been fond of classic style - loves a tuxedo trouser, does Anne - but with her new dark crop, she's now working a very feminine Audrey Hepburn look from dawn to dusk. Her Little Black Dress quota is definitely on the up. And to great effect.
Short, cropped hair is wonderful if you can pull it off but wardrobe back-up is essential. You have to pare down your clothes too. Keep colour and shape simple. Monochrome, graphic stripes, sharp tailoring and classic dresses will all enhance. Flowers and flounces not so much.
