Philip Treacy returns to London Fashion Week

As the British Fashion Council get set to release the full spring/summer 2013 London Fashion Week show schedule tonight, the latest big name to join the roster has already been revealed.

Irish milliner, Philip Treacy will be making his catwalk comeback after a 12 year hiatus.

Treacy, the go-to 'hatter' for royalty, celebrity and catwalk designers alike (Treacy's prior commissions include work for Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, and Alexander McQueen at both his eponymous label at Givenchy Haute Couture), made his London Fashion Week debut in 1993 with a show comprising all black hats, staged at Harvey Nichols.

Owing to Treacy's popularity however, his was no ordinary London Fashion Week debut, and starred a cast of the supermodels of the day including Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon, Kate Moss, Stella Tennant and Christy Turlington.

Treacy remembers: "I phoned up Christy Turlington to say that I was having a show and would she do it for me. She agreed and the rest followed on. Naomi Campbell's agent called the next day. Kate Moss complained that I hadn't asked her.... The media went crazy when all those girls did my show and it completely changed perceptions of the hat."

Treacy's subsequent London Fashion Week catwalk shows starred other famous faces including long-time fan, Grace Jones, and always in the front row his great friend, muse and loyal supporter, the late Isabella Blow whom Treacy describes as "the first extraordinary interesting person I met in this country when I moved here from Ireland".

Treacy staged his last London show in 2000 before switching to Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, and subsequently focusing on his couture business.

Treacy joins fellow comeback kids Preen by Thornton Bregazzi on the official London Fashion Week schedule, which will also feature a presentation by British-born, American-based design duo, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville's label Rag & Bone.

Anya Hindmarch and Richard Nicoll will both present full catwalk shows, while Moschino Cheap & Chic - which made its London debut last season - will return to London for a second season.
