LVMH boss Bernard Arnault is the richest man in France


The chairman and CEO of LVMH, the company that owns Louis Vuitton, Celine, Marc Jacobs and Givenchy, amongst other brands, has an estimated fortune of €21.2 billion. Arnault's son, Antoine, is currently in a relationship with supermodel Natalia Vodianova .

Arnault is just one of many fashion and retail figures who dominate the top ten names on Challenge magazine's annual ranking of the 500 biggest fortunes in France, reports WWD .

The three families that control Hermès International - the Dumas, Puech and Guerrand families - come in at number three with €17.4 billion while L'Oréal heiress Liliane Bettencourt slipped to number four with €15.3 billion. François Pinault, head of PPR - which owns brands including Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent - made sixth place with €6.3 billion, while Chanel owner Alain Wertheimer and his family remained at eighth position with an estimated €5.6 billion euros.

In March this year, Arnault featured in the Telegraph 's list of the 25 most powerful people in fashion .
