Lady Gaga inspired by Gullivers Travels for Fame fragrance advert

Lady Gaga likes to shock with her outfit choices, but to promote her debut fragrance the singer has proudly donned her birthday suit, hired several jockstrap-wearing men in miniature to preserve her modesty, and a mask - probably to suggest that all she really needs to wear is her new perfume.

Photographed by Steven Klein for the campaign, Gaga worked with fragrance giant Coty to create the scent. The company's president, Renato Semerari, said working with the singer was a "very stimulating partnership. She is an artist that is never satisfied with the status quo - she always has this way of challenging everybody and trying to do something more, something different."

The 26-year-old is touting the 'Lady Gaga Fame', sub-headed 'Black Fluid', as the first ever black eau de parfum, "It's black, like the soul of fame" she explained when she leaked a photo of the bottle last month .

Of course it is, however you might be relieved to hear that on application it is actually transparent - and smells nothing like blood and semen, as was rumoured. Instead, 'Tears of Belladonna, crushed heart of tiger orchidea, with a black veil of incense, pulverized apricot, and the combinative essences of saffron and honey drops' make up the quirky scent.

The egg-shaped bottle, which is embellished with a gold, claw-like cap, was designed in collaboration with fashion image-maker Nick Knight. "Lady Gaga conceived this egg idea back at the Grammy Awards where she came out of an egg, so it's symbolic," explained a source.

Lady Gaga Fame will debut in the US in September.
